Where would you feel more comfortable playing?
Was listening to Fore Play and they were debating this.
I was torn for a bit, but I think with my game, I would go 12th at Augusta. The only water you have to clear is right in front of you. Although the green at the 12th AN is about 75% smaller than the size of the 17th at Sawgrass, I feel like I would have a better shot at getting a par than the countless water balls i would hit on the 17th. Also, if i would hit the green at Sawgrass, I know for a fact my ball is rolling right off.
What says you?

It’s not an easy 2nd shot under tournament conditions, but it’s still dry. I would be aiming at that back bunker on 12. At worst I’m making bogie or even double.
17 just bring stupid bug numbers into play. I’m the end, pick a club and trust your shot. It’s that easy.

If you’re playing to not make a 10 on any of these holes then yes, going long at 12 would make it the easier option. If I’m forced to make a par then I’m choosing 17 at tpc all day. Center of green and hope i don’t 3 putt. Which i would. Going long on 12 with a back right pin is playing Russian roulette. That may be one of the trickiest shots in all of golf. In the bunker or out of the rough with minimal room to work with, lightning fast green, and water behind it with a severe drop off? I’d shiit my pants in my backswing and skull it straight in the water.

I’ve birdied 17....at tour 18.
Really though, I am taking 17 because I am confident in my ability to two putt most of the time.
I would be playing for bogie at 12 because if i miss the green, I am fricked

17 all day, aim for the center of the green, even for an average golfer, you have a 50% chance of hitting the green then at worst a 3 putt your way to a bogie.

17 is way easier than 12. Missing the green on 12 bones you on all but one pin and in the front bunker.
17 is not a hard shot and unlike 12, if the wind is blowing you know where from. If you are a single digit handicap you should almost never hit the ball in the water.

The green at 17 is huge. 12 at Augusta is my favorite hole so I’d rather play that one but 17 at TPC is probably the easier shot.

I won the lottery for a Friday a few years ago, was posted up at 12 for a few groups. I kept losing the ball in the air
This sweet old lady tells me she is a local, been to everyone round for 30 years, and husband is a volunteer. She tells me to stop watching the ball off the tee and catch it above the trees because the wind will move it. She was like that’s why young player struggle with the hole.
Sure enough every young dude misses their spot and has the dumb look on their face like “wtf was that”

Thats worse than going in the water on your tee shot
Because if you are long, your next shot is going in the water

Absolutely more comfortable playing 17th at TPC Sawgrass. The green is much larger and deeper. More margin for error on a well struck shot.
I'd rather play the 12th at Augusta, but there's just no room for error front and back. Just a little short and it's rolling back into the water (unless you hit the front bunker). Long is dead with a downhill lie back toward the water. There's nowhere to miss. But I'd have a great time trying.

Both are no where near as bad as the 10th at Genesis

and then what? Have a delicate chip out of the rough or sand 12 feet above the worlds thinnest green with the creek right behind it? Sounds like a good plan

I think if not on the green the best place to miss would be the bunker in front of the green. That chip coming back if long is riddled with danger

Wouldn't be comfortable but I'd pay to just go hit at 17 Sawgrass trying to land it.

Someone should tell the all those plus handicaps this since they put 100 plus balls in the water at 17 this year.

Hit a wedge out of the sand, putt. Idk something. Seems like if you put one in the water on 17 more will follow.
Pulling a shot over to the left of the green wouldn’t be a terrible miss.

Good luck hitting the green, and if you play safe onto the green youre still in 3 putt territory

The drop zone is less than 100 yards from the green. Probably a double but the green is also huge.

It's a horrible miss. You can go bunker, water, drop back in the bunker, 3 putt
