FSU baseball is headed back to the Men’s College World Series. The Seminoles beat UConn 10-8 Saturday in Dick Howser Stadium to sweep the Tallahassee Super Regional.

It is Florida State’s 24th time making it to Omaha and the first time since 2019. Link Jarrett has now made it to the MCWS with FSU as a player and a coach.

James Tibbs III showed why he is one of the best players in the country, hitting three two-run homers to power FSU to the win and the series sweep. He finished the game with five hits and six RBI.

Florida State finished the game with six home runs, their most in a game all season. They scored nine of their 10 runs on home runs.

FSU’s offense was finally able to break through in the third inning after Cam Smith drew a leadoff walk. Tibbs came through for the Seminoles, hitting a two-run homer to center field and making it a 2-2 game. It was his first extra-base hit of the NCAA baseball tournament.

O Canada once again worked its magic for FSU in the fifth inning as Smith started the inning with a single. Tibbs then gave the Seminoles their first lead of the game with his second home run of the day, putting FSU up 4-2.

They were not done either as Marco Dinges homered on the next pitch, making it a 5-2 lead.

That run was crucial as UConn answered back in the bottom of the inning. The Huskies hit a two-run homer of their own, scoring for the first time since the first inning and cutting the lead to one.

Max Williams joined the homer parade in the top of the sixth inning, hitting a solo homer to push FSU’s lead to 6-4.

Arnold came out to start the sixth inning but he wasn’t able to finish the inning after giving up a leadoff double and hitting a batter with one out. Brennen Oxford came in to try and preserve the lead.

He got the first batter out but walked the next to load the bases with two outs. He fell behind to the next batter and gave up a bases-clearing double as the Huskies took a 7-6 lead in the sixth inning.

Arnold allowed six runs (five earned) on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings. He struck out nine batters and did not issue a walk, though he did hit two batters. UConn made him work for every out as he needed 121 pitches.

After neither team scored in the seventh inning Jaxson West led the eighth inning off with a solo homer to tie the game at 8-8. It was his second home run of the season.

Oxford issued a two-out walk in the eighth inning and Jarrett went back to his bullpen, calling for Joe Charles. He attempted to pick the runner off first but the throw was off and the runner advanced all the way to third base. FSU intentionally walked Luke Broadhurst, who was 4-for-4, before Charles walked the next batter to load the bases with two outs.

He was able to get out of the inning with a flyout to send the game to the ninth inning still tied.

FSU immediately took the lead as Jaime Ferrer led the inning off with a single. Daniel Cantu then drew a walk to put two runners on with nobody out, forcing UConn to make a pitching change.

Lodise attempted to lay down a sacrifice bunt but UConn was unable to field it to load the bases with nobody out. Drew Faurot took advantage, hitting a sacrifice fly to the warning track to give FSU the 9-8 lead.

That was all the Seminoles managed as the next two batters flew out Connor Hults came in to try and close out the game.

He was unable to protect the lead as UConn led the inning off with a solo home run to tie the game at 8-8. The next batter hit a single and after a sacrifice bunt advanced him to second his day was done as Jarrett called for Conner Whittaker out of the bullpen.

He was able to escape the jam with two flyouts to send the game to extra innings. Where he held the Huskies scoreless in three innings before Tibbs hit his third homer of the game in the 12th to punch FSU’s ticket back to Omaha.
