Now let the story begin.
Rain continues hitting the ground harshly on a gloomy day in Heartland City as a rugged looking duelist falls to his knees after being defeated by a Number hunter named [Y/N].
Duelist : N-no way....I actually lost?!
[Y/N] : Tch. Despite possessing a Number card, your dueling skills were bordering on being absolutely pathetic. Oh well, this duel wasn't a complete waste of time, I still get what I came for.
He tells his defeated opponent before taking the Number card from him.
[Y/N] : Usually I would take your soul as well, but I'm feeling generous today. Lucky you.
The Number hunter then walks away, having claimed his prize.
[Y/N] : Another Number card acquired. Dr. Faker should be pleased with my results. As long as I keep doing what I'm doing, she will be alright....I hope.
He says quietly to himself as he stops walking and locks eyes with Dextra and Nistro, two other Number hunters working for Dr. Faker.
Nistro : Well well well, seems like someone's been busy today. Got another Number huh?
[Y/N] : I take it you two were watching me? What, does Faker not believe I'm capable of getting Numbers on my own?
He asks the two apprehensively as Dextra shakes her head.

She tells him as he immediately relaxes.
[Y/N] : Is that so? Well, have fun with that. If anyone needs me...don't.
He walks away but not before giving Dextra a small smile, making her blush faintly as she does her best to hide it.
Nistro : Grr! That guy! He makes my blood boil! He's like an even colder version of Kite!
Dextra : Cut [Y/N] some slack Nistro, he's not that bad if you get to know him.
Nistro : Heh, you're only saying that because you loooove him.
He teases as the female Number hunter's face turns red as she shoots him a harsh glare.
Dextra : Be quiet Nistro. [Y/N] is just an...acquaintance.
Nistro : Hah! As if I believe that! I can read you like a book Dextra, I know you have feelings for him!
Dextra : So what if I do huh? Do you have a problem with that?
She startles him with her harsh tone as he flinches slightly.
Nistro : N-no, of course not!
Dextra : Good. Now let's get back to doing our jobs Nistro.
With [Y/N] still on her mind, Dextra walks off with Nistro following suit.
Timeskip
Later in the day, [Y/N] is seen standing at the entrance to a hospital room talking with a doctor.
[Y/N] : So, how is she doing today?
Doctor : The same as usual [Y/N]. While she is much better than when she was first admitted, your sister's condition isn't improving enough to leave the hospital. I'm sorry.
[Y/N] : I-it's ok doc, I appreciate everything you've been doing for her. At least she's not getting worse.
The doctor gives him a small sympathetic smile before he gets paged, causing [Y/N] to sigh as he enters the room and looks down at the resting form of his sick sister [S/N].
[Y/N] : Hey sis, it's me again. I don't wanna wake you, so I'll keep my voice down. You're gonna be staying here just a bit longer ok? Don't worry though, I'll always be sure to visit. I love you sis, and I wish you would get better soon. Sweet dreams.
He gives her a sad smile before turning around to see Dextra standing there.
Dextra : So this is where you disappear to all the time?
[Y/N] : ....yes. How long have you been standing there Dextra?
He asks as she comes into the room before answering him.
Dextra : Not long. So, this is your sister huh?
[Y/N] : Yeah, her name is [S/N]. About a year ago she got really sick, and initially no medical professional could figure out what from. Eventually my family found out [S/N] has an extremely rare disease that's difficult to treat. Because of my dueling skills, Mr. Heartland came to me on behalf of Dr. Faker with an offer. If I became a Number hunter, my sister would receive the best medical care this city has to offer. Naturally I accepted, and as long as I keep gathering Number cards, her treatment will continue.
Dextra : I'm sorry you have to deal with this [Y/N]. Why haven't you told anyone about this until now?
[Y/N] : Because I didn't think anyone would care about my problems Dextra. Kite has his own sibling to look after, and Nistro isn't exactly the sentimental type.
Dextra : Well you're wrong about that [Y/N], because I care.
[Y/N] : Thank you Dextra, that means a lot to me.
He gives her a smile, which she returns.
Dextra : You're welcome.
After a brief silence, she speaks up again.
Dextra : C-can I tell you something?
[Y/N] : What is it Dextra?
Dextra : Now may not be the most appropriate time for this, but I need to say this to you. I...I've had feelings for you for a while now [Y/N].
She tells him as he gets slightly flustered.
[Y/N] : Dextra, I feel the same way about you.
Dextra : R-really?
Her eyes widen slightly as he nods.
[Y/N] : Yes. In fact, I....I love you Dextra.
Dextra : I love you too [Y/N].
The two Number hunters proceed to share a kiss, unaware that [S/N] has woken up and is smiling at seeing her brother get a girlfriend.
